Quad take on mammoth rowing fundraiser for Damilola Taylor Trust
Four young men took on a mammoth rowing challenge this week to raise money for a charity combating violence.
Kaan Jordan, Luke Hanrahan, Joe Peyton and Stephen Orekoya took to an ergo at Fison fitness studio in Milkwood road, Herne Hill, to row for 24 hours non-stop in a herculean effort to raise almost £10,000 for Damilola Taylor Trust.
Damilola was 10 years old when he was stabbed to death near Peckham Library, on his way home from school on November 27, 2000.
Richard Taylor OBE, Damilola’s father, dedicated his life to campaigning against youth crime, sending out a positive message in the face of his heartbreak and the misrepresentation of deprived areas.
Mr Taylor set up the Damilola Taylor Trust shortly after his son’s death, which aims to help young people in deprived and inner city areas.

On March 23, 2024, Mr Taylor died, aged 75, after battling prostate cancer.
Damilola Taylor Trust 25th Anniversary committee chair, Leroy Logan MBE, said: “This gruelling challenge was a fantastic gesture.
“Having so sadly lost our founder Richard Taylor last year this is an especially poignant Anniversary date on the horizon and we are all so grateful to Kaan Jordan who led the initiative and all the members of his team and the staff at Fison fitness for their dedication.”
The rowing challenge is just one of a number of events taking place throughout the year to commemorate the 25th anniversary of Damilola Taylor’s death.
