AFC Wimbledon head coach: We were close to a permanent deal for George Dobson
AFC Wimbledon head coach Mark Robinson reckons they came “close” to sealing a deal for Charlton Athletic new boy George Dobson.
The former Sunderland midfielder signed for the Addicks earlier this week.
Dobson spent the second half of last season on loan with the Dons.
Asked if Wimbledon were ever that near to a permanent deal for the former Arsenal and West Ham youth product, Robinson told the club’s YouTube channele: “Close, I think.
“We are where we are with resources, so we didn’t think we were going to get George. Then George rang me and sort of was keen to come back. We had lots of chats, because he loved it here.
“But then he has had other offers, so it was just the nature of the beast. We had a phone call and he was quite emotional. He’s taken another offer. He was fantastic for us last season. We wish him all the best. We’ll have a replacement coming in very soon.”
