Alexander Povetkin hits back at Dillian Whyte over ‘fake’ Covid-19 claim

BY RICHARD CAWLEY

Alexander Povetkin has rubbished claims that he did not have Covid-19 when his rematch with Dillian Whyte had to be rescheduled.

The pair were due to fight in January but the Russian was hospitalised with the virus in December.
Whyte previously said Povetkin faked it.

The two heavyweights face each other in Gibraltar on Saturday night.

But the 40-year-old said: “He can think and say whatever he wants but we have the documents – we will send it to Matchroom. It is not a discussion.

“It wasn’t that I had it serious. It was just enough to avoid any risk for the family and having my body checked out.”
