Bermondsey boxer Chris Kongo suffers points loss in Nottingham

Bermondsey’s Chris Kongo was outpointed in his welterweight contest against Owen Cooper on Saturday night.

The South Londoner’s record drops to 17-3 after the defeat in Nottingham.

Referee Kevin Parker scored it 96-94 to Cooper (11-1).

Kongo, 32, had chained together three straight victories since losing a majority decision to Ekow Essuman in January 2023 when he challenged for the British and Commonwealth titles.

Kongo has previously held the WBO Global and WBC International Silver belts.
