Charlton 1 Doncaster Rovers 3 – Fans back at The Valley but Addicks unable to deliver a win

Charlton suffered their first defeat of the League One season – as the 1,000 fans allowed back at The Valley had little to cheer.

Doncaster Rovers ran out 3-1 victors in SE7 with the fixture selected by the EFL to pilot 1,000 supporters being allowed in.

The Addicks trailed to Madger Gomes’ long-distance strike at the break and fell further behind in the 49th minute when Charlie Barker turned into his own net.

The match was over as a contest when Arsenal loanee Tyreece John-Jules – who had been set to sign for Charlton if they saw their transfer embargo lifted – added a deflected third in the 63rd minute.

Conor Washington did pull one back for the Addicks as he netted for the second successive league match, heading in from about 10 yards out from Jake Forster-Caskey’s cross.

Alex Gilbey struck the crossbar right near the end.

But the result only underlined that Charlton need reinforcements to compete at the very top end of the table – something which isn’t possible all the time their ownership issue remains unresolved.
