Charlton Athletic close to third signing of the January transfer window

Charlton Athletic are set to wrap up the loan signing of Middlesbrough attacker Marcus Browne at the start of next week.

The Addicks have been keen to bolster their attacking options in the January transfer window.

Football Insider reported first that Charlton have beaten off interest from a number of clubs to land Browne on a temporary basis.

The 24-year-old started on West Ham United’s books – signing at the age of eight – and made his senior bow in the Europa League in 2016.

Browne agreed a four-year contract with Middlesbrough in July 2019. He has scored two goals in 22 appearances for the Teessiders.

Browne is back fit after a lengthy spell on the sidelines with an ACL injury.

“Because of the nature of the operation, it’s practically a new knee I’m dealing with,” he told Middlesbrough’s official website in the summer. “I need to get my body adapted to how my knee is. Working on the bike helps me get that basic level of fitness back.”

Charlton have made two additions in the January transfer window – Chuks Aneke returning on a permanent basis from Birmimgham City and left-sided defender Juan Castillo on loan from Chelsea.
