Charlton Athletic land Ipswich Town midfielder Camara on season-long loan

Charlton Athletic are set to announce the loan signing of Ipswich Town midfielder Panutche Camara.

Addicks manager Dean Holden was determined to add a top quality anchorman to his squad to add extra defensive steel.

And Camara, 26, was a top target for the League One club, who are set to be under new owners after SE7 Partners’ takeover was approved by the EFL last night.

The Guinea-Bissau international, who started his career in non-league with Dulwich Hamlet, was a star performer for Plymouth but was sold to Ipswich in September 2022 after refusing to sign a new contract.

The Tractor Boys reportedly paid in the region of £500,000 for Camara. A groin injury, which required surgery, saw him make just four appearances in all competitions.

Ipswich boss Kieran McKenna told the EADT earlier this month that the player was set to make a temporary exit. He said: “We think as a football club it’s going to best for him to go on loan this season and get minutes having missed the first half of last season with injuries and then found opportunities limited in the second half with players coming in and doing well.

“He’s been training really well and is a top professional. We’ve had communication from some different clubs. That process is ongoing at the moment.”
