Charlton Athletic winger to be missing for ‘a period of weeks’ after suffering ankle damage

Diallang Jaiyesimi is set to be missing for a number of weeks with the ankle damage the Charlton winger suffered at Colchester on Tuesday night.

Jaiyesimi was replaced in the first half of the EFL Trophy reverse.

And Charlton manager Ben Garner has ruled the former Swindon Town player out of tomorrow’s match at Lincoln City.

He said: “He’s got damage to the ankle. He’s going to be in that protective boot for a good couple of weeks and rehab from there. It’s disappointing for DJ because he came on and had an impact on Saturday and he’d played a key role up until that point on Tuesday night.

“We’re disappointed for him. As always we’ll look to bring him back fitter, stronger and more positive.

“I never like to put a timeframe, but certainly a period of weeks.”

Chuks Aneke resumed full training on Thursday but Garner has indicated the plan is to have the forward, who has not played since pre-season due to a calf injury, available for Tuesday’s home game against Exeter City.

“We’ll see how he is this morning,” said Garner. “My hope is he can be involved against Exeter on Tuesday night, if he comes through the next two or three days of training with no issues then I’d plan to have him back in the squad.”

Aaron Henry has also been sidelined with a knee issue.

“It’s not a serious injury, it was quite a minor strain,” said Garner. “I hope he’d be back by the end of the month. It’s certainly not long term. He’s in good spirits and getting on with his rehab really well.”
