Charlton defender knows just how motivated Coalville Town will be for FA Cup first round clash
Terell Thomas has insisted that none of Charlton Athletic’s players will be taking Coalville Town lightly in today’s FA Cup first round tie.
The non-leaguers head to South London aiming to spring another surprise having knocked out National League promotion contenders Notts County in the previous round.
Addicks defender Thomas said: “They have earned the right to be in the first round, so we’re not going into the game thinking about what tier they are in.
“I’ve been in the opposite position of being in a team that is a few tiers down and has earned the right – I know the motivation and energy that brings to the dressing room.
“We had an upset when we were at Wimbledon – we beat West Ham in the FA Cup. I know the kind of mentality we had then and we have to match that – and more.
“The FA Cup is a great campaign, we want to progress and get past the third or fourth round, if possible.
“Coalville will be a good game. We need to show them the right respect and come away with the win.”
