Charlton play-off hero Matty Godden explains why future in management or coaching isn’t for him
Charlton Athletic striker Matty Godden has revealed that he will not be going down the coaching or managing root when his playing career ends.
The frontman scored the Addicks’ winner in Thursday’s League One play-off semi-final second leg to defeat Wycombe Wanderers.
Godden will be looking to add to his 22 goals this season when he faces Leyton Orient on Sunday at Wembley.
The 33-year-old has previously lost at the national stadium with Coventry City.
Godden’s career saw him work his way out of the non-league game and back into full-time football.
And he told the South London Press recently that he is already well advanced on plans for when he no longer plays.
He said: “I’m doing my financial exams, I’m halfway through that now.
“Coaching doesn’t interest me. Probably looking after younger players and advising them on that front. I’d want to stay in sport, but as a financial advisor or wealth management is more what I feel I’d benefit in.
“I love speaking to people but football takes up so much dedication and time.
“I feel like I’ve got years left. In the back of my mind I want to set myself up for four or five years time, whenever it might be.”
