Chelsea loanee set to get first taste of AFC Wimbledon action in Scunthorpe friendly
Henry Lawrence is set to get his first action as an AFC Wimbledon player in tomorrow’s Plough Lane friendly against Scunthorpe.
The 19-year-old signed earlier this week on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea.
Lawrence is an England U20 international who has been with the Blues for 10 years.
“He’s already looked outstanding in training,” said Dons head coach Mark Robinson. “You can see his quality and he also adds versatility – he can play left-back, right-back, left wing-back, right wing-back, in midfield or right or left in a back three.
“I presented to him when the season finished. We had to be patient and at times I thought it wasn’t going to happen. He had so much interest, I understand why he took his time.”
Wimbledon are set to add one more striker to their squad to wrap up their incoming business.
Centre-back Will Nightingale, who had chipped a bone in his arm, will be involved against the Iron, the final tune-up before the League One opener at Doncaster on August 7.
The Dons lost 1-0 at Woking on Tuesday night.
Tahvon Campbell scored the clincher for the National League outfit.
