Chuks is back! Aneke red card rescinded – with Charlton top-scorer available for Wigan match
Chuks Aneke’s red card against Blackpool has been rescinded – meaning the Charlton Athletic striker will be available for tomorrow’s League One match at Wigan Athletic.
Aneke had been facing the prospect of a four-match ban as it was his second dismissal of the campaign.
But the Addicks appealed the decision of referee Brett Huxtable to show him a straight red for an aerial challenge in the second half of Saturday’s 3-0 loss at The Valley.
Charlton will be without midfielder Darren Pratley, who also got his marching orders for two bookable offences.
Aneke has scored 12 goals for the South Londoners this season and did serve a suspension after receiving two yellow cards against Gillingham earlier this month.
With replays showing the decision to be incorrect, the club lodged an appeal to have the decision overturned,” said Charlton in a statement on their official website. “Following a review by the Football Association’s independent regulatory commission, the claim for wrongful dismissal was successful and the red card has now been rescinded, making Aneke available for the trip to Wigan Athletic on Tuesday evening.”
