Corey Blackett-Taylor determined to finish season strongly with Charlton Athletic
Corey Blackett-Taylor is determined to finish the season strongly after making his first-team return in Charlton’s 1-0 win over Gillingham on Tuesday.
The 24-year-old had missed the previous seven matches with a hamstring injury.
Blackett-Taylor impressed in back-to-back victories over Fleetwood Town and Portsmouth before coming off with the muscle issue just 12 minutes into the home fixture against AFC Wimbledon at the start of February.
It was the left wing-back’s approach play and shot in midweek which eventually ended up with Alex Gilbey scoring to halt Charlton’s seven-game winless spell.
“I have the license to go either way when I play on the left,” said Blackett-Taylor, who signed a contract extension until at least 2023 in mid-November. “When I see an opening I’ll get off a shot or a cross. I want to show I can play like that for more consistent games.
“Just before I got injured I was picking up a bit of form. I was happy with how I was playing, so my time out was frustrating. You wonder if you’re going to get back to that standard – you start having those doubts. But I put it right on Tuesday.
“The last few games we have not been up to standard, so it was good to get the win. It’s time to push on now.”
Blackett-Taylor played 88 minutes against the Gills. He said: “I wasn’t expected to play that long. I felt good and wanted to keep going.”
