Could QPR open door for Fulham or Brentford to grab promotion spot? Mark Warburton on Hawthorns decider

Mark Warburton says his QPR side will be going out trying to win Wednesday’s Championship finale at West Bromwich Albion – even though it could open the door for one of their west London rivals to take the second automatic promotion spot.

If the Baggies take all three points at The Hawthorns then Slaven Bilic’s team will join Leeds United in the Premier League next season.

But if Albion were to draw then Brentford could move ahead of them – while a defeat would also give fourth-placed Fulham an opportunity.

Former Bees manager Warburton said: “My thoughts are I’m very aware where this conversation could lead to and I’m trying desperately to avoid going to that place.

“I know what’s at stake, I know the rivalry between the two clubs, I know my link to the two clubs – I know all of that stuff.

“At the end of the day you’ve got to be professional in what you do and QPR must go into the game on Wednesday respecting our opponent and what we face – but going out to win a game of football. Simple as that. I would never field a team or make a suggestion that would ever not be the case.

“What will happen, will happens. There’s so much at stake – there’s £200m reasons why there is so much at stake. We’ve got to go out and do a job and the integrity of the Championship will be maintained.”
