Croydon Pirates win the 2022 National AA Championship Tournament
Croydon Pirates won the inaugural National AA Champion-of-Champions Tournament on Sunday, at Farnham Park in Slough.
This competition saw Pirates, the BBF champions, take on the winning teams from other English regional leagues.
Croydon defeated the East of England Baseball League Cambridge Lancers 18-1 in game one before beating the Norwich Iceni 12-2 in game two.
This led to an exciting final game with the West Midlands Baseball League champs Leicester Blue Sox.
As the light faded, Croydon and Leicester played a hard-fought game with the Pirates just edging the Blue Sox 5-4.
Player-coach Tim Ssali said: “Winning the Champion of Champions is a perfect end to a great season. It shows that we’re ready to compete at the Triple-A level next year. Many different players stepped up this season and that really shows the depth of our roster.”
This tournament marked the end of the Pirates’ regular season but the club have several autumn friendly games scheduled, including one with the WB-UK Baseball League Belles women’s team.
The Pirates play their home games at Roundshaw Playing Fields, Hannibal Way, Croydon, CR0 4RW and they are always looking for new players of all levels.
