Crystal Palace were unlucky not to hit West Brom for more than three goals – Eagles chief Roy Hodgson

BY SAM SMITH

Crystal Palace were unfortunate to not score more than their three goals against West Brom on Tuesday night – according to boss Roy Hodgson.

A brace from Andros Townsend and a powerful drive from Patrick van Aanholt saw off Hodgson’s former club as the Eagles progressed to the EFL Cup fourth round with a convincing 3-0 victory.

The 71-year-old told eagles.cpfc.co.uk: “We played extremely well. We played well at Swansea [in the previous round] and we were even better tonight – against a tough opponent as well.

“I’m impressed by the quality of our defending but even more impressed by the quality of our attacking. The three goals were small reward for the chances we created, but credit of course to the West Brom defence and goalkeeper who put their bodies on the line by blocking a few of those opportunities.

“It would not have been a scandal had we scored more goals.”
