Dillian Whyte signs deal to face WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury

Dillian Whyte’s attempt to dethrone WBC world heavyweight champion Tyson Fury looks to be on after the South Londoner signed a contract before the governing body’s deadline.

Brixton’s Whyte had until 6am today to put pen to paper.

The bout looks set to take place at Wembley Stadium on April 23.

Whyte has kept quiet since Queensberry Promotions, who promote Fury, won the purse bid to stage the contest. And the fact he went almost to the wire before signing the deal left at least an element of doubt whether it was going to happen.

Fury said: “Dillian Whyte signed his contract for $8million, what a surprise. An absolute idiot. Should this even be a talking point? The man’s signed for the biggest payday he’s going to get in his life.

“I’m absolutely going to burst Dillian Whyte like a cheap water balloon. You’re useless, you big dosser – you useless sausage.”

Fury also mocked Whyte for taking so long to commit to the bout.

“My head hurts from all the mind games Dillian Whyte has been playing on me,” he said. “Oh my god. I’m so sore I don’t know whether I’m coming or going, my training’s camp a mess.”

Whyte is guaranteed to receive £5.6m – the highest payday of his career. There is also £3.1m which will be paid to the victor.
