Ellie Scotney defends WBA Intercontinental title and targets IBF world champion Bridges next

Ellie Scotney set her sights on IBF world bantamweight champion Ebanie Bridges after retaining her WBA Intercontinental title at Greenwich’s 02 Arena tonight.

The Catford boxer had the superior skills and footwork and that was reflected in the judges’ scorecards as she widely outpointed Maria Cecilia Roman.

One gave Scotney every round – 100-90 – with the other two marking it almost as one-sided at 99-91.

The South Londoner, who wore yellow and black shorts with ‘Made In Catford’ on the back of them, was in control from the very start.

Roman was giving away 14 years to her 24-year-old opponent and seemed to struggle to find any fluency.

Scotney stayed focused throughout and her dominance only became more telling down the back stretch.

Scotney is now 5-0 in the paid ranks with Roman’s record 16-7-1.
