Fulham boss gives his verdict after Harry Kane downs the Whites at Craven Cottage

Fulham manager Marco Silva admitted his side failed to show enough quality in the second half of last night’s 1-0 loss to Tottenham.

The Whites were the better team in the opening 45 minutes but trailed at the interval to Harry Kane’s 266th goal for the visitors – moving him level with the club’s record scorer Jimmy Greaves.

The England international drifted between Tim Ream and Issa Diop, the former allowing him to turn on to his right and whip an excellent finish past Bernd Leno.

Fulham finished with 53 per cent possession but were unable to break down a Spurs side who showed little ambition to attack after the restart.

It is back-to-back defeats for the west Londoners, who are seventh in the Premier League.

Silva told BBC Sport: “A tough result for us. We were very good for 42-43 minutes and then we lost a little bit of control for the last three or four minutes and they scored a goal. We lost our organisation and reaction after a fast corner.

“We had two chances we probably should’ve scored. We didn’t and they punished us with a great moment from Kane. It’s clear we should set up ourselves in a different position to block that moment for him to receive the ball there.

“The second half was a bit different – not the same energy. We didn’t find the spaces easily or break that organisation, with nine players behind the ball.

“Our goal is clear [at the start of the season]. From the first moment of the season I think people said we were favourites to go down. We are here to fight to stay at this level. Our position in the table, we have to be proud of – but the Premier League is really tough. It would not make sense to change our goals.”
