Fulham cool, calm and collected in January window as Arsenal and Torino deals struck

Fulham had a fairly sedate January window as they wrapped up two deals on deadline day – Arsenal right-back Cedric Soares and Torino midfielder Sasa Lukic.

Soares, 31, has been signed on loan for the remainder of the Whites’ Premier League campaign.

Fulham already had their allotted two loan spots filled but shifted centre-back Shane Duffy on to a permanent deal until this summer.

Soares, who worked under Whites boss Marco Silva at Sporting Clube de Portugal, will provide competition for Kenny Tete.

“I wanted this deal to happen, so we all pushed in the same direction, and I’m really happy and pleased to be here,” said Soares. “Me and my family are really, really happy for this move. I can’t wait to start.”

Lukic, who can play either as a deep-lying or advanced central midfielder, has reportedly cost £8million.

He has signed a contract until the summer of 2027, with Fulham having an option to extend by a further 12 months.

Lukic will link up with fellow Serbian international Aleksandar Mitrovic. He started all of his country’s matches at the Qatar World Cup.

Fulham performed some other housekeeping of their squad with Nathaniel Chalobah joining West Bromwich Albion on a permanent basis. He made 22 appearances last season as Silva’s side powered to the Championship title.

Josh Onomah had his contract cancelled by mutual consent.

Defender Connor McAvoy has been loaned to Scottish Championship side Partick Thistle.

Fulham’s FA Cup fourth round replay against Sunderland at the Stadium of Light will take place on February 8 and be broadcast live on BBC One.
