Fulham defender set for Charlton Athletic loan switch

Charlton Athletic are hopeful of concluding a season-long loan deal for Fulham defender Steven Sessegnon.

The 22-year-old has been capped by England at every junior level ranging between U16 and U21.

Sessegnon is comfortable on both the left and right in a full-back or wing-back role, meaning he would be able to cover either flank.

The Roehampton-born player, whose twin Ryan made a big-money switch to Tottenham, signed a professional deal with Fulham in June 2017. He made his first-team debut a few months later in an EFL Cup tie against Wycombe.

Sessegnon has featured 19 times for the Whites at senior level.

He spent the 2020-21 season on loan at Bristol City but suffered a hamstring injury which ruled him out for 17 Championship matches.

Sessegnon made another temporary switch away from the west London club at the end of January’s transfer window, making 10 appearances for Plymouth Argyle.

Charlton have made four signings this summer – Joe Wollacott, Mandela Egbo, Eoghan O’Connell and Conor McGrandles.
