Gary Rowett gives his verdict on Millwall’s 1-1 draw at Cardiff City

Gary Rowett revealed that illness once again affected his Millwall side for today’s 1-1 draw at Cardiff City.

Jed Wallace’s superb free-kick cancelled out Aden Flint’s goal in Wales.

“We’ve had a tough period in terms of injuries and illnesses,” said the Lions chief. “Aiden O’Brien probably would’ve started today and he was ill last night and couldn’t travel. Alex Pearce was due to start and was ill. Murray Wallace, who had to come on, was ill. Fergie came off – he was ill. Jon Dadi Bodvarsson started, he was ill.

“I’m not expecting any sympathy but it is one of the things that stretched us.

“In the first half I was really pleased with our composure for an away side. We came to a difficult place like Cardiff and limited them to just some counter attacks. We had most of the control and moved the ball quite well, but we just didn’t have that final bit of cutting edge.

“I’ve watched it back three times and it’s a clear penalty on 18 minutes. Coops has got the wrong side of Glatzel and he pulls his shirt. The officials should see that. The second one wasn’t a penalty.

“We had some really good possession. Jed and Bradders are two on two with Flint and the other centre-half and you feel we should get a shot off and create an opportunity.

“Cardiff did what we did in the second half – they had more control and passed the ball a little bit better. It’s a great save from Bart from Tomlin. It was a shot out of nothing.

“There weren’t too many clear cut chances. Cardiff didn’t hurt us with too many chances and we didn’t hurt them with too many chances.

“It was a wonderful save and we conceded a poor goal from a set-piece, which is really disappointing. Flint loses Cooper. It’s poor defending. Jed gets us out of trouble with a fantastic finish and then the game fizzles out.

“We probably go away the slightly happier team because we’re away from home and a point is always reasonable.”
