‘I want a settled side’ – Charlton Athletic boss Nigel Adkins asked about continual chopping and changing

Nigel Adkins has insisted he wants to make fewer changes to his Charlton Athletic starting line-up after a raft of switches in recent matches.

The Addicks boss brought in five changes for Tuesday night’s 4-1 loss at Bolton on Tuesday which saw the home side sink to 23rd in the League One standings.

The pressure is firmly on Adkins to produce an upturn in results as they head to Fleetwood Town this weekend.

The Charlton manager has made 23 changes to his starting line-up in the last four fixtures.

“I’d love to have a settled side,” said Adkins. “I said at the outset of the summer period [that] our objective for this season was to arrive with a team where we could work through pre-season. History will suggest a settled side gets promoted or has won things.

“We are striving for a settled side. We’ve got a big squad at various stages of availability to play 90 minutes of football Saturday-Tuesday-Saturday consistently. We’re getting stronger now.

“I’ve got a positive mindset and we’re going to be in a far better position moving forward.”
