Ice-hockey: Streatham look to make it 20 wins in a row – Chieftains stand in their way

Streatham head to Chelmsford to take on the Chieftains this weekend hoping to notch up a 20th consecutive win in all competitions, writes David Carr.

Michael Farn’s men made light work of Oxford City Stars on Sunday with a 7-0 road win inspired by a hat-trick from Danny Ingoldsby, added to by lone goals from Ziggy Beesley, Sam Waller, Ryan Watt and the coach himself.

Previous games against Oxford had been closer, and the Stars had won two of their last three, but a nightmare first period for the hosts saw them 4-0 down before they’d woken up.

“We were fortunate to be up by four so early,” said coach Farn.

“We were clinical with the chances we had, but we were a little sloppy, especially considering recent games where we’ve come out hard and really put ourselves on the front foot.

“Second period they came out much better and in the third we bounced back.

“Things got a little feisty at the end, but I wouldn’t put it down to a lack of discipline. Some of it was justified.”

Chelmsford are the only team to defeat the South London side this campaign, thanks to a 2-0 win in Essex in October.

“Each game is massive now for us as we edge towards the end of the regular season,” said Farn.

“We want to keep taking steps towards hopefully lifting another trophy. We’ll take nothing for granted and take each game as it comes.”

Streatham’s next home game is on February 19 against Romford.
