Ice-hockey: Streatham parade London Cup in front of home supporters

BY DAVID CARR

Streatham lifted the London Cup in front of a jubilant home crowd last weekend to add a second trophy to the 2021-22 honours list.

Fresh from winning the Britton Cup earlier in the month, Michael Farn’s men did another lap of honour after a 4-2 win against Romford Jr Raiders at Streatham Arena.

Streatham had already put themselves in an unassailable position in the round robin competition, that also featured Chelmsford Chieftains and Invicta Dynamos.

Streatham’s scorers were Ziggy Beesley, Danny Ingoldsby, Conner Smith and Josh Ealey Newman.

“It was another massive crowd in the building so we wanted to make sure we won the game, even if we’d already won the trophy,” said player-coach Farn. “I said to the lads before the game that with crowds coming to support us like this, we can’t let up at all.

“I felt a bit for Nate Gregory in goal as we let him down, with their goals. But overall I can’t complain as that’s now two trophies in the bag and hopefully more to come.”

Streatham edged out Invicta Dynamos 6-4 in Kent a day earlier to maintain their 11-point gap at the top of NIHLS1 table.

The RedHawks travel to Bristol Pitbulls this weekend in their only fixture.
