‘Incredible’ – Conor Gallagher on cloud nine after late screamer in Crystal Palace’s 3-1 win over Everton

Conor Gallagher scored twice in Crystal Palace’s 3-1 win over Everton this afternoon – and described his late second as “incredible”.

The on-loan Chelsea midfielder has netted six times for the Eagles.

He confidently fired Palace in front in the first-half and then curled a delicious finish past Jordan Pickford after winning possession on the edge of the Everton box.

James Tomkins had made it 2-0 to the South London club but substitute Salomon Rondon cut the deficit soon after replacing Richarlison.

Gallagher is third in the Premier League for most goals and assists combined from an England player in the Premier League this season with nine. Only Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount and  Leicester striker Jamie Vardy (10) have more.

Crystal Palace’s players mob Conor Gallagher after he makes it 3-1

“It was a fantastic performance from us,” Gallagher told Sky Sports. “Conceding the goal made it a bit of a nervy last 20 minutes and the goal at the end just killed off the game.

“This game was massive for us. We’d lost the last three so to get the three points was really important. The performance was brilliant and the three points is unreal.

“We have been unlucky in the last few games, although we haven’t played our best. Today we wanted to give the fans here a good performance and we did.

“We pressed well [for the first goal]. Credit to Jordan [Ayew] as well. He gave me a good pass and I was happy to score then.

“The last one, that feeling is incredible. I won the ball back and I’ve got Christian [Benteke] right behind me telling me to leave it. There was no chance I was leaving it.

“I think so [his best goal in a Palace shirt]. Them [the fans] singing my name is a great feeling for me. They give me confidence, which is amazing for a player. Hopefully I can continue to impress them.

“I always give my all, every time I play. I work my hardest and try and affect the game as much as I can.”
