Injured Millwall defender still in a protective boot – as return looks some way off

Millwall defender Murray Wallace is still in a protective boot after breaking his foot recently.

The versatile Scot defender broke a bone in his foot last month, with Lions manager Gary Rowett admitting his time on the sidelines would depend on how the injury healed. A potential timeframe has been mooted as between five and nine weeks.

But Rowett revealed after the 0-0 draw with Norwich that the former Scunthorpe United centre-back was still in a protective boot – despite hopes it would have been removed by now.

The Lions moved to bring in George Evans after Wallace suffered the injury, with the recent addition from Derby County expected to slot into Millwall’s back three.

“Muzza’s going to be out for a little bit longer,” said Rowett. “He’s in a boot which we hoped might be able to come off this week but it looks like the boot might have to stay on for a little bit longer which is disappointing.

“But that’s one of the reasons why we’ve brought George Evans in. He gives us that flexibility to play in a back three or in a midfield three. I certainly think George being unavailable tonight limited us to the changes we could make. But moving forward I think he’s going to be a really good addition for us.”
