Johnnie Jackson pleased at Charlton’s EFL Trophy progression and minutes for Inniss and Blackett-Taylor

Johnnie Jackson was pleased at the minutes that Ryan Inniss and Corey Blackett-Taylor got under their belts in Charlton’s EFL Trophy win over Milton Keynes tonight.

The Addicks are into the last eight of the competition after Jonathan Leko’s late headed goal at The Valley.

Former Crystal Palace centre-back Inniss has had an injury-disrupted spell and only recently returned to the action after missing a hefty chunk of the campaign.

“He came through and I was really pleased he was able to get those minutes – he was excellent,” said Charlton manager Jackson. “He got the maximum minutes-wise that we felt was correct and safe with him.

“We have to be really careful, he has been out a long time. He can be an important player but we have to be wise with that.”

Jackson revealed that Blackett-Taylor, who started at right wing-back as he made 11 changes, was due to be in the squad against Wycombe.

“He was supposed to be involved at the weekend but he woke up not feeling too well on Saturday morning, so we had to omit him from the squad.

“I did wonder if tonight would still come too soon, when he had not been feeling great on Saturday, but he wanted to play.”

The draw for the next round takes place on Thursday morning and is no longer regionalised.

The Addicks are two victories away from a Wembley final.

“I want a home draw – I don’t care who we play,” said Jackson. “I’m really, really pleased we got through. I always want to win games and this one was no different.

“It was pleasing to score a late winner because it makes it difficult for the other team to come back. You’re half-preparing yourself for penalties at the end. You think it’s going to be a stalemate. For Leko to pop up that late with a winner is really pleasing.”
