Key defensive stat underlines how Millwall have tightened up under Gary Rowett
Millwall have the joint second-best defensive record in the Championship since Gary Rowett replaced Neil Harris in the Den hotseat.
The Lions still have a shot of reaching the play-offs after Friday night’s 1-0 derby victory at Charlton.
They face Middlesbrough tomorrow in SE16.
Only Brentford, in red-hot form, have conceded fewer goals (22) since Rowett was appointed by Millwall in October. Thomas Frank’s side have kept five successive clean sheets.
The Lions have let in 25 goals over the same 28-match period which puts them on a level par with West Bromwich Albion, who occupy the second automatic promotion berth.
Table-topping Leeds have conceded 26 goals. After that comes Nottingham Forest and Reading (both 29).
Rowett has often switched to a three-man central defence for away fixtures and Millwall have kept successive shutouts in their last two games on the road.
Millwall have racked up 14 clean sheets in the league in the current campaign – with 12 of those coming after Rowett took the job in late October.
