Lee Bowyer on the late lapses which have cost Charlton Athletic eight more Championship points

Lee Bowyer has been left bemoaning late lapses by his Charlton Athletic side – with Lukas Jutkiewicz’s equaliser on Wednesday night the SEVENTH game in which the South Londoners have conceded in stoppage time.

The Birmingham striker struck to deny the Addicks a crucial victory in the Midlands.

Macauley Bonne had put the away side in front earlier in the second half.

If Charlton had not conceded late in those seven fixtures they would have banked eight extra points.

Bowyer said: “If you add that to your tally then you’re not doing bad, are you?

“It is part of the game, we’re not the only team that concede late goals and we’ve scored late goals. But in the situation we’re in, it can’t happen. It really shouldn’t happen.

“There is no way he should get a shot at goal, to get across the face of someone and finish. That should be our defender clearing it or at least a block on the shot.

“We’re two minutes away from safety, it’s that plain and simple.

“It’s a poor goal. We’ve got three centre-halves on the pitch to defend the cross and that’s what I can’t get out of my head. They were just pumping long balls. All we had to do was stand strong and make sure your man doesn’t score. It is just hunger – keeping the ball out of your net.

“But we just don’t see it out. I don’t know if it is lapses in concentration but it is happening far too many times.”
