Leeds United striker adds to QPR’s firepower after making loan move to W12

Tyler Roberts has joined QPR on a season-long loan from Leeds United.

The 23-year-old striker becomes Michael Beale’s third summer signing following the arrivals of Jake Clarke-Salter and Kenneth Paal.

Roberts, who came through at West Brom before signing for the Whites in January 2018, is relishing the season ahead in W12.

“I’m very excited,” Tyler told the club’s official website.

“At this stage in my career, I want to play as many games as I can and this is a great club to come and do that at.

“I can feel the buzz around the place ahead of the new season with the new gaffer.

“I had a chat with him and his enthusiasm towards the game is clear. He’s got a great track record with improving young players and he wants to play football in the right way.

“He feels that now is the time for me to really push on in my career – and so do I.”

Roberts has made more than 50 appearances in the Championship with Leeds and was part of their title-winning squad of 2019/20.

He said: “I think everyone enjoys being involved in the Championship – whether you’re watching or playing.“I am young but I’ve played Championship football for two seasons, obviously winning promotion with Leeds.

“The division is full of ups and downs but as long as we stick together, I’m sure good times will follow.”

The Wales international will be eyeing up potential involvement in the Qatar World Cup in November and knows performing for QPR will be critical to that.

“I think that gives me an extra little bit of hunger, on top of what I already have,” Tyler explained.“It would be a massive career achievement for me to go to the World Cup – but to go I know I need to be playing my best football.”
