Lions set to stick with testing procedures as boss Gary Rowett aims to limit injury absences

Millwall’s squad have been put through a battery of tests – with manager Gary Rowett keen to persist with the data to try and avoid injuries.

The Lions head to Edinburgh tomorrow for a training camp.

The Championship club started pre-season at the end of last week, only getting a truncated summer break due to the impact the Covid-19 pandemic had on the domestic fixture schedule.

Rowett said: “We’ve done the testing that most teams will do when players come back – we need to know exactly where they are physically so we can have individual strength programmes tailored to their weaknesses and strengths.

“We can have an injury-prevention specifically tailored to them.

“There are a lot of numbers and things that get done in the opening days, but ultimately my whole premise with that is that we need to follow that up and work on what the results have told us. I’ve been at a lot of places where you test for a couple of days, get loads of fancy numbers and don’t ever really test again or follow it through. We’re keen to continue to do that.

“Last season we probably picked up a few too many muscle injuries towards the end of the season. A lot of clubs did when the games started up again, for various reasons, but we’re keen to do everything we can to not let that happen again.”
