Luke Berry refusing to be downbeat despite Charlton’s 3-0 loss at Peterborough
Luke Berry is remaining in a positive mood despite Charlton Athletic’s 3-0 loss at Peterborough United yesterday.
The Addicks stayed fourth in the League One standings after their six-match unbeaten run was ended in Cambridgeshire.
But Charlton still managed 25 efforts – but only six on target.
Berry did produce a first-time lob over former Addicks loanee keeper Jed Steer early in the second half but the ball ended up going astray. And it was his early corner which Lloyd Jones headed against the crossbar.
“Their front three, front four, were really good and caused us a lot of problems on the counter attack,” said the former Luton Town midfielder. “We couldn’t deal with it at times.
“We had enough chances to make a real game of it. We played okay at times – they were clinical and we weren’t.”
Peterborough were prepared to leave gaps defensively to ensure they had good numbers forward to counter on the Addicks.
It worked time and again as they broke on Nathan Jones’ men.
“It can be a bit cat and mouse,” said Berry. “Where we felt we needed to push forward and if they break on us it can be three on three or four on three in their favour. It will be something we probably look at next week to nullify and not let it happen again.
“As long as we keep trying the right things I’m sure we will get the points to hopefully see us in the play-offs. If we can get on a run like we did after Rotherham then hopefully we can push for an automatic spot.
“We have still got to play both of the boys above us (Wrexham and Wycombe) – you never know. We need to learn from what has happened and not let it happen again. We’re in good form and we’ve been playing well. It is just one of those days – they finished their chances and we didn’t.
“Monday we will debrief and hopefully really get it right at The Valley – just go on a good run again.”
