Manchester City’s Foden reacts to calls for Jadon Sancho to take his place in England’s side
Phil Foden has given his response to talk that England manager Gareth Southgate should drop him and play Jadon Sancho.
South Londoner Sancho, 21, is yet to play a minute for his country at the European Championships despite the fact they have failed to really click in the final third.
Southgate has opted to start with Manchester City’s Foden and Sterling either side of Tottenham captain Harry Kane, a former Millwall loanee.
Manchester United are reportedly trying to strike a deal with Borussia Dortmund for Sancho, who was raised in Kennington.
Asked about calls for him to make way for Sancho for the final group game tomorrow against the Czech Republic, Foden told talkSPORT: “Obviously everyone plays differently and has their different qualities. That’s the depth we have in the squad. Jadon loves one-v-one situations, I’m more one that comes inside and tries to link the play.
“Gareth tries to pick the best 11 for the team. Whatever we need in the next game, he is going to pick the right players.”
