Millwall 4 Bristol City 1 – Lions up to 11th in Championship standings as they finish off in style at The Den

BY KAI BENNETT

Millwall ran riot in their last home game of the season as they put four goals past a hapless Bristol City.

Gary Rowett’s side put on a show to move the Lions up to 11th in the Championship.

Millwall took the lead after five minutes. Scott Malone’s long diagonal pinpoint pass found Jed Wallace who fired a low strike into the bottom corner.

Ten minutes later the visitors were back on level terms. Henri Lansbury’s clever pass found Tommy Conway, who rounded Bart Bialkowski and tapped into an empty net.

The Lions were lucky not to be behind when Kasey Palmer squared it to Conway, who dragged his shot wide of the post from close range.

Just after the half-hour mark the Lions retook the lead when Malone’s drilled shot found the inside of the far post for his sixth goal of the season.

Billy Mitchell celebrates his goal

Millwall started the second half the stronger and were rewarded when Billy Mitchell netted his first goal for the club with a well-placed strike into the top right hand corner.

Five minutes later the Lions added a fourth. Tom Bradshaw nicked it off Nathan Baker’s toes and slotted the ball past Robins keeper Max O’Leary to end his barren 24-match goal-less run.

Gary Rowett’s side nearly added a fifth with 20 minutes to go but Bradshaw could only head straight at the keeper from Danny McNamara’s cross.
