Millwall attacking trio are exciting combination – but injury situation means prudence is required
Gary Rowett has admitted he may need to take a cautious approach with exciting attacking trio Mason Bennett, Jed Wallace and Tyler Burey – with Millwall already missing a number of players at the top end of the pitch.
Benik Afobe, Tom Bradshaw, Oliver Burke and Luke Freeman have all been ruled out with injuries for the Lions.
But Bennett once again caught the eye with his power and dynamism in Millwall’s 2-1 win at Derby County on Wednesday night.
Lions manager Rowett said: “He has shown really good resilience. He has played a lot more minutes and looked stronger in games late on, more so than previously.
“He did the same last year, he came on really strong in the second half of last season, and he started putting some good performances in.
“For the second goal [against Derby] it is a fabulous run and bit of skill. For someone like that to come in on a free transfer – at the age – that is what he has got. He needs to see that a bit more, because of injuries.
“If we had Benik, if we had Burke and Freeman – you can see the impact they can give us late in games to change to rotate. At the moment we’ve got to wrap Jed, Mason and Tyler up in cotton wool. At times we might have to bring other players in and hope they maintain it.
“It would be really dangerous to keep playing everybody because we risk players breaking down. We can’t afford it. We have to make sure they don’t do too much
