Millwall boss happy to be nominated for top boss award – but reckons credit for club’s achievements has been “low”

Neil Harris reckons his Millwall side have not got the recognition they deserve for their achievements over the last 18 months.

The Lions chief is up for Championship Manager of the Month in February with his in-form side collecting 13 points from a possible 15. Tuesday night’s 2-1 victory at Hull City was a fifth straight league win on the road and they have collected 22 points in their last 10 matches – only bettered by Fulham (26), Aston Villa (25) and Cardiff (23).

Millwall look to make it 11 unbeaten in the Championship at home to Brentford tomorrow.

Harris said: “It is a privilege to be nominated alongside guys like Neil Warnock, Steve Bruce and Slavisa Jokanovic – when you see where they are in the league. It is testament to how well my boys have played during February and the run we’ve been on.

“I’ve got to be honest, the accolades my squad has received over the last 18 months for what they have done has been quite low. That is quite disappointing.

“We got to the quarter-final of the FA Cup last year and nobody really talked about it; and we got promoted from League One and no-one really went overboard. It was a case of ‘that is what Millwall should do’.

“We have got to 11th in the Championship table and beaten so many teams, five straight wins on the road and we’re still not really being talked about.

“Sometimes that is nice as a manager but also you want your staff and players to be recognised. We have certainly gone under the radar to a certain extent on that.

“When I talk about it being great recognition from everyone here to be in contention for the award, there is also a tinge of disappointment that none of my players have been nominated for the Player of the Month. You could argue for four or five of them in February. It is their good form which has got me shortlisted for this award.”
