Millwall boss has his say on why dangerman Femi Azeez was starved of the ball in second half at Oxford
Neil Harris has given his thoughts on why Millwall’s supply line to Femi Azeez was cut off in the second half of Saturday’s 1-1 draw at Oxford United.
The summer transfer window signing from Reading was a big threat in the opening 45 minutes.
But Azeez, and all the other attacking players, were largely nullified after the break.
“We turned the ball over too cheaply in the second half,” Harris told the South London Press. “Oxford, as we expected, were much better in the second half.
“There was a scenario where we were very disappointed with our first half against Sunderland and we came out and absolutely battered them, because of the reaction and a slight tinkering of playing style.
“Oxford changed, to a certain degree, how they wanted to build which meant we had less of the football. That was fine because Oxford never caused us a problem up until the goal.
“We gave the ball away three or four times in good areas, where we didn’t in the first half, which gave us a lot of opportunities to get into the penalty area.
“That’s probably why are wider players were a little bit quieter in the second half.
“When it becomes like that we really miss someone like Duncan Watmore from the team because his profile of taking the ball between the lines and carrying the ball up the pitch in tight areas is so vital for us.”
