Millwall boss Neil Harris would relish Charlton Athletic derbies next season – and reckons League One play-offs could be best in years

Millwall manager Neil Harris reckons that this season’s League One play-offs has the potential to be a humdinger – and admits he would love to renew rivalries with Charlton Athletic next season.

Harris took the Lions to two play-off finals in successive campaigns in League One. They lost to Barnsley in the first one but followed up to win promotion with a 1-0 victory over Bradford City in 2017.

The Millwall chief told the South London Press: “I think it is going to be one of the best League One play-off campaigns for many a year.

“Sunderland, Portsmouth and Charlton are three massive clubs at that level. And Doncaster as a club have grown a lot in the last 10 years.

“That is going to be five really good games at that level. Charlton have got real momentum going into them, they are on a great run of form. They have really built well under Lee [Bowyer].

“A big part of me as a Millwall manager would like to see then get promotion because Millwall-Charlton games are special. They certainly would be in the Championship next year.

“But it would also be great if Portsmouth, under Kenny [Jackett] do it.

“What you get in the play-offs is the team that holds their nerve, has the luck and that is brave during those games is the team that gets promotion.

“I think it’s a real tight call which of those sides goes up.”
