Millwall boss provides striker transfer update – and discusses link to Liverpool forward

Millwall manager Gary Rowett has not ruled out adding to his strikeforce – but reckons any additions in that department will not come cheap.

The Lions are set to be without on-loan Tottenham forward Troy Parrott for a number of weeks after he suffered ankle ligament damage, writes Richard Cawley.

Millwall will still be able to make domestic signings until October 16.

Tom Bradshaw’s last Championship goal was on January 1. Jon Dadi Bodvarsson has netted six times in 38 matches for the Lions but the Icelandic international is yet to get off the mark in the current campaign.

Hopes had been high that Parrott could be that missing link but the 18-year-old Republic of Ireland international is facing up to two months out.

Rowett said: “At the moment it is quite a difficult one because should we do anything it has to be something which improves our team – and that is going to cost a reasonable amount of money.

“There hasn’t been much movement out of Championship clubs so far because most of us are in the same situation in that League One clubs can’t take fringe players. The wage cap in League One has killed the market a little bit.

“Clubs don’t want to be too top heavy and we’re one of those. You don’t want to have 24 or 25 players and ruin the spirit and dynamic we’ve got. It’s been quite difficult to move one or two on the fringes because of the situation that the market is in.”

Millwall had been linked with a loan move for Liverpool’s Liam Millar.

The Canadian striker, 21, has previously spent time on loan at Kilmarnock.

“Liam is a good player and we’ve got good contacts at Liverpool in terms of loan options,” said Rowett.

“The usual thing is that you can have a conversation with an agent and if he wants to drum up interest – I’m not saying that is the scenario here – then a list of clubs get mentioned.”
