Millwall boss Rowett talks about Jiri Skalak’s exit – and praises former Brighton winger for ‘brilliant’ attitude

Gary Rowett has confirmed that Jiri Skalak is set to complete a move back to the Czech Republic – and has praised the winger for staying professional despite a lack of first-team opportunities.

The 28-year-old is set to re-sign for Mlada Boleslav, who he left when he sealed a move to Brighton in 2016.

“I think the club has come to an agreement with Jiri,” said Millwall manager Rowett. “I’ve spoken to Jiri and he has been brilliant – he comes in every day and trains to his maximum. He never complains about anything.

“When we’ve needed him or used him he has never let us down. But it comes to a point with any player that they feel like they need to move on and get their career going again.

“It is the right thing for all parties. Jiri’s desire to want to go and help his old team through the rest of the season just sped things up. It came about quickly.

“He goes with our best wishes. We really appreciate the effort he’s put in. It just hasn’t worked out for him and it happens that way for some players. What you can’t do is hang around forever and not play football.”
