Millwall chief “confident” of concluding deal for at least one transfer deal next week

Millwall boss Neil Harris is hoping to make another transfer breakthrough before their midweek friendly at Southend United.

The Lions are in action at Gillingham on Sunday and flew back from their Portuguese training camp yesterday.

“The work hasn’t stopped just because we have been out there,” said Harris. “The conversations have been going backwards and forwards. I would be confident of concluding at least one deal next week – a loan or a permanent for a player.

“We have got two deals that are quite a long way down the line. We are getting closer with them. I’m not making assumptions after this summer transfer window. 

“Whether we get anyone in before Sunday – probably not. But Wednesday I would be more confident.”

Striker Jon Dadi Bodvarsson played his first minutes for Millwall while they were away. The Icelandic international signed a week ago from Reading.

Harris said: “He is a mobile striker, more in the ilk of Lee Gregory than a Matt Smith.

“Jon Dadi is someone I see as quite similar to Steve Morison when he first came to the club. Moro was still a little raw but he had the energy and legs to work the channels – to get in behind teams and upset defenders.

“Even though Jon Dadi is six foot two he is not a targetman, even though he’ll put himself around and win his fair share of headers. With Lee leaving us we needed someone who could work the sides and run. Aiden [O’Brien] will do that also.

“Both of them can play with Tom Bradshaw and Matt. We’ve got a really good complement of attacking players which allows us to build through the lines or go a bit more direct.”
