Millwall defender James Brown is set to miss the opening weeks of the season – with manager Neil Harris describing his injury as “nasty”.
The 21-year-old has previously had spells on loan at Carlisle, Livingston and Lincoln.
But Brown – along with Aiden O’Brien (hip) – will play no part in Millwall’s friendly opener at Concord Rangers on Saturday.
Harris said: “James will be missing. He’s got a nasty injury and is going to be out for a period of a few months. It’s his knee. I don’t know the full ins and outs. I need to the speak to the physio in-depth.
“But he is going to miss the whole pre-season programme and start of the season.”
Shane Ferguson reports back from his summer break on Saturday. The left-footer had been on international duty with Northern Ireland earlier this summer.
“Fergie definitely won’t play at the weekend,” said Harris.
