Millwall are hopeful of concluding a deal to make Gary Rowett their new manager.
The former Burton Albion, Birmingham and Stoke City boss always looked their top target to replace Neil Harris, who stepped down at the start of this month.
The Lions still went through a rigorous interview process and had a final shortlist of three – Rowett, Wycombe’s Gareth Ainsworth and first-team coach Adam Barrett, who had stepped up to take caretaker charge.
Millwall’s American owner John Berylson flew into the UK to conduct interviews on Thursday and Friday.
The Championship outfit are looking to confirm Rowett as boss within 48 hours.
Barrett will be staying on as part of the coaching team and will take charge of tomorrow night’s home game against Cardiff City.
Rowett is expected to name Callum Davidson as his assistant manager.
If the appointment is made in time then the 45-year-old, who had a playing spell with Charlton, could watch the midweek match from the directors box.
