Millwall stopper “delighted” at accolade – and reveals fans wish

Bart Bialkowski says he is “delighted” to have won Millwall’s Player of the Season award.

The Poland goalkeeper, signed last summer from Ipswich Town, finished ahead of Jed Wallace and Mahlon Romeo, second and third respectively.

Midfielder Billy Mitchell was voted the Lions’ Young Player of the Season.

“I’m delighted,” Bialkowski told Millwall’s official website. “It’s been a great season for me, but for the whole team too. A much-improved season from last year. I wasn’t here then, but I know it was a disappointing season for the club.

“We’ve been consistent, but there has been ups and downs along the way, as there will be in a long season. But, we managed to stay in the fight for the Play-Offs until nearly the last game of the season.

“The fans have been absolutely brilliant from day one. They welcomed me with open arms and I felt their support along the way. Hopefully next year they can be back with us and help us be successful.”

Bialkowski kept 17 clean sheets – 16 of them in the league.

He shared the Golden Glove trophy with Brentford stopper David Raya, who also kept 16 shutouts in the Championship.
