Millwall winger Mahoney could have extra motivation as he heads back to Blackburn Rovers
Neil Harris is expecting Millwall winger Connor Mahoney to have extra motivation on his Blackburn Rovers return tomorrow.
The winger, 22, was born virtually on the doorstep of Ewood Park but turned down a contract extension to sign a four-year deal with Bournemouth in July 2017.
Millwall snapped up Mahoney from the Cherries this summer. The wideman could get a bad reception from home fans.
“Supporters boo players for two reasons,” said Harris. “One, there has been an incident in a game or they have said something in the press that riles the fanbase.
“Or, two, they are a very good player and fans just like to boo good players.
“I guess in this case it would be the latter. Connor is a very, very good player. He has the best crossing stats in the division, we’ve just got to fine-tune the quality in terms of getting people on the end of it.
“It should give you that edge, to go back and prove a point.
“He made a footballing decision a few years ago when he was very young. I’m sure Blackburn fans will be disappointed to have lost a very talented player.”
