Millwall’s Gary Rowett cracks top-10 longest-serving list after QPR appoint Gareth Ainsworth

Gary Rowett is now in the top-10 longest-serving managers in England’s top four divisions after Gareth Ainsworth ended more than a decade’s service to Wycombe Wanderers.

Ainsworth quit the League One Chairboys to become QPR’s new head coach.

He had been second on the list of longest-serving bosses in the top four tiers of the domestic game.

But Rowett now moves up a spot. The former Derby County, Stoke and Birmingham City chief succeeded Neil Harris at The Den in October 2019.

Coventry’s Mark Robins is the only Championship boss who has been in his post longer.

Rowett has managed 170 matches as Lions manager, winning 67 and drawing 51 of them.

He has twice led Millwall close to the play-offs with their top-six prospects still alive on the final day of the previous campaign.

The Lions are in action tonight, hosting league leaders Burnley.
