Mitrovic hungry for more goals as Fulham can clinch title at rivals Bournemouth

Fulham can seal the Championship title if they win at AFC Bournemouth tomorrow.

The Whites clinched promotion back to the Premier League with a 3-0 victory over Preston North End on Tuesday night at Craven Cottage.

Aleksandar Mitrovic scored twice, taking his goal haul to an incredible 40 with four matches still to go.

And Fulham need just two more goals to hit a century in the league.

Victory on the South Coast this weekend will mean that the Cherries – managed by ex-Fulham boss Scott Parker – would not be able to catch them.

Marco Silva’s side have been the outstanding team in the division and will now try and break their record of one-season stays in the top flight.

“I knew why I came here to Fulham and what the club wanted from me,” said Silva.

“We knew that would be difficult, but the players have grown since the beginning of the season and we have that desire. We have been so dominant for most of the season.

“Nothing is guaranteed in football and you have to keep working hard and the challenge is hard for next season. But we have to be positive and show full desire and ambition.

“It is difficult but it is a fantastic challenge. Our boys have been brilliant in my first season in the Championship.”

Mitrovic needs three more goals to break Guy Whittingham’s record in the second tier, set while he was a Portsmouth player in the 1992-93 campaign.

“There are still four games to play so let’s try to make the number even higher,” said Mitrovic. “I had great numbers this season but that is down to the good players I have around me and the style we played this season.

“We create a lot of chances and score a lot of goals. It’s been an amazing season for myself and for the team as well.

“We did a great job tonight [Tuesday] and we did a great job all season. We deserve it.

“Every time [he has been promoted with Fulham] it still feels like the first time.”

Fulham are reportedly set to confirm the signing of Israeli winger Manor Solomon, 22, from Shakhtar Donetsk on a five-year contract.
