‘No distractions’ – Charlton Athletic boss on end-of-season awards night being moved

Nathan Jones has talked about Charlton Athletic’s determination to have “no distractions” in their promotion run-in – with that thinking behind the club changing their end of season award plans.

The Addicks are right in the League One promotion mix and won 2-1 against Wigan Athletic today.

Charlton announced today that their annual function will be moved into pre-season.

Jones was asked about that after the South Londoners made it seven straight home victories for the first time since 2019.

He said: “It’s not going to happen at the end of the season. What we have done now is make sure we’re focused on one goal. Then whatever happens, we will celebrate – hopefully a very successful season – at the right time.

“We have chatted to senior people at the club and they have kind of agreed. So it is just us having a real focus.

“It is disappointing because last season was one of the best turnouts the club has had in a long, long time and we really had a great night. We celebrated achieving something last year that we have categorically gone past.

“We still want to celebrate and make sure the fans are part of everything. It’s just that right now no distractions and total focus on what we want to achieve.”
