Norwich City 0 Millwall 0 – Defensive stability returns as Lions earn impressive point at Carrow Road

BY ALEX GRACE AT CARROW ROAD

Millwall produced a solid defensive display to leave Carrow Road with a point and a clean sheet.

Norwich had the game’s first real chance on 18 minutes. Teemu Pukki held the ball up brilliantly and found Marco Stiepermann, who drove a shot straight at Bart Bialkowski.

Millwall were struggling to deal with the energetic Placheta – he and Pukki were causing Shaun Hutchinson and Mahlon Romeo problems down Millwall’s right hand side.

Lukas Rupp had a go from outside the box as the clock hit 40 minutes but it dropped harmlessly wide.

Norwich came close to taking the lead twice towards the end of the first half, Rupp’s effort deflected off Romeo and forced Bialkowski into a very good save. Moments later, Placheta hit the post with another deflected effort.

Norwich started the second half on the front foot and had the first attempt of the second half, Buendia’s free-kick was straight into the wall.

Pukki came close again in the 62nd minute. He turned and shot from just outside the box but his effort squeezed wide of Bilkowski’s near post.

With 20 minutes left, Buendia had another shot but again it was blocked by Hutchinson as Millwall defended solidly.

Bialkowski then had to have strong hands to deny Buendia, the ball came back to the Norwich man who saw his rebound effort cleared away by Hutchinson off the line.

Bialkowski then made another smart stop to deny Pukki.

Millwall could have won it with the final kick of the game, Mason Bennett got away down the left hand side, pulled the ball back for substitute Shaun Williams who hit the bar.

The Lions have taken seven points from nine away from home since the international break.
